Every used LED wall purchase is, at its core, a depreciation trade. Somebody else already paid the years of fastest value loss and the rental-contract wear, and you buy a working wall at a fraction of the original invoice. This page breaks down where the money actually goes on both sides of that trade — without made-up percentages, using only numbers we can stand behind.
What you are really paying for with a new LED wall
A new panel invoice bundles four things: the hardware, the factory margin, the distribution chain, and the insurance of a multi-year warranty. For rental-grade panels, the hardware itself is a minority of that stack. That is precisely why a three-year-old rental fleet from a known brand can sell for a third of its new price and still be a thoroughly professional tool.
The premium is not wasted — it buys you serial-number provenance from day one, the newest LED generation, and a factory warranty. Whether that premium is worth it depends entirely on how hard and how soon you will work the wall.
Where used wins
Depreciation already paid
The first owner absorbed the steepest value loss. A used batch from a matched fleet delivers stage-ready output without the new-price penalty.
Speed
New walls quote in weeks of production; our used batches ship in 2–7 days. For a booked event, that is the difference between winning and declining the job.
Known brand, smaller budget
Gloshine, Dicolor and LightLink cabinets — brands that carried real rental contracts — become affordable in quantity on a used budget.
Batch-matched spares
Our shipments include spare modules from the same batch, so a repair is a swap, not a colour-matching project.
Where new still wins — honestly
If you need the very newest LED efficiency for a permanently installed, always-on advertising site, or your procurement rules require a factory warranty chain, buy new and buy once. Used panels also carry cosmetic history: minor scratches and mask wear are normal and priced in, but if your client inspects cabinets at half a metre, factor that in.
There is also the paperwork dimension. Some tenders and insurance policies simply require new equipment. We would rather lose that deal than sell used into a specification it cannot satisfy.
The five-year view
| Cost factor | New wall | Used wall (from a professional reseller) |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase price | Full factory + distribution margin | A fraction of the new invoice — batch and condition decide how large |
| Lead time | Production weeks, then freight | 2–7 days from our floor, then freight |
| Warranty | Multi-year factory chain | Reseller warranty and test records instead — ask for both in writing |
| Cosmetics | Factory-fresh | Minor handling marks, priced into the deal |
| Depreciation | Steepest in years 1–2 | Already absorbed by the first owner |
| Spares | Factory parts, lead time applies | Same-batch spare modules ship with the wall |
Read the table honestly: neither column wins every row. The used column wins where cash and calendar matter most; the new column wins where a factory warranty chain is a hard requirement. The mistake is not choosing the wrong column — it is not knowing which rows your project actually cares about.
A real number from our own floor
Our NovaStar VX400s-N video processor is listed at $450, down from an original $520 — a simple, verifiable example of used-market pricing on a current, fully tested unit with a 90-day warranty. Panel pricing works the same way: every batch on our floor has a clear per-m² quotation, no mystery bundles.
What we deliberately do not do is quote invented “typical savings” percentages — used pricing moves with brand, pitch, batch size and condition, and any supplier who quotes you a fixed universal discount is rounding off your project to fit their spreadsheet.
The cost items buyers forget to budget
- Freight from China — sea for walls, air for processors and spares.
- Duties and import handling in your country.
- Rigging and structural costs at the venue (same for new and used).
- A receiving card / controller budget if your project scales beyond the wall.
- Spare modules — included with our shipments, but confirm quantities.
- The first service visit: most faults in week one are connector-level, not LED-level.
Three real buyer scenarios
The rental company adding capacity
You already own rigging, processors and crew. What you need is more square metres of batch-matched panels before a booked season — speed and per-m² price beat a factory warranty, which makes used the rational buy.
The house of worship on a fixed budget
One install, one viewing distance, no touring. A calibrated used wall at a fixed distance performs like new every Sunday, and the savings fund the audio or lighting the building actually lacks.
The event agency quoting a one-off
For a single production, buying new means financing a wall you will resell at a loss within the year. Renting-grade used panels bought at used prices, then resold, often cost less than the depreciation alone on new hardware.
How we price used batches
Each of our 12 batches — about 1,490 m² across 4 brands is priced on brand, pitch, remaining LED life and batch size, with the test history attached. You are welcome to compare per-m² figures across batches on the phone — the numbers hold up because the grading does. An overview of who we are and what we hold lives on our home page.
Is used LED wall quality really comparable?
For rental and event work, a tested, calibrated, batch-matched used wall is visually indistinguishable from new at normal viewing distances. The differences live in cosmetics and in remaining LED lifetime, both of which a good supplier will describe honestly.
Can I see the exact price for my size?
Yes — send the size and venue and we quote per square metre for the matching batch within one working day.
What about warranty on used panels?
Our tested batches ship with test records and agreed support terms rather than a factory chain — the trade-off is explicit, and for rental fleets most buyers find it more useful than a paper warranty they cannot claim across borders.
Can I start with a small used wall and expand later?
Yes, with one discipline: buy your expansion from the same batch. We track batch availability precisely so customers can come back for matched quantity — another reason mixed-batch bargains cost more than they save.
Is freight included in the quotation?
Quotations cover the goods ex-warehouse in Shenzhen; freight is quoted separately so you can compare forwarders. We pack to the freight mode you choose — sea cases and air cases are built differently, and we confirm the packing format before the invoice.
Run the numbers with us
Send your wall size and application. We will price the matching batch — and tell you honestly if new would serve you better.
